Bonaire Animal Shelter Ornament

Every Friday night at Blennies on the island of Bonaire, Dame Barbara van Olphen brings ornaments she's personally painted and t-shirts to sell in an effort to raise money for the animal shelter on the island. Here's the one I purchased.

The ornaments are very clever--Calabash seeds. A Calabash tree is a small evergreen tropical tree which produces large spherical fruits up to 20 inches in diameter. The hard shells are useful as bowls, cups, and other water containers when hollowed out. In this case, Barbara makes ornaments out of the seeds.
